Beneficial Bioflavonoids Help Reduce Inflammation

A number of different studies have supported the hypothesis that the bio-flavanoids found in the nopal cactus help reduce inflammation. Inflammation can be caused by a number of different diseases and conditions, such as fibromyalgia, lupus, gout, arthritis, and even more serious diseases such as cancer or HIV. Obviously, in cases of inflammation, one should consult a doctor immediately.

However, could it be possible to reduce, improve, and make more bearable the symptoms of inflammation? There have been a number of different studies over the past few decades that have suggested the benefits nopal cactus juice and fruit can have on inflammation. Nopal cactus juice may be able to prevent and reduce inflammation in individuals who drink or eat the fruit.

“What Causes Inflammation?”

It is first important to explore the root causes of inflammation. Without a thorough understanding of the causes of inflammation, one cannot discover alternative ways of approaching the symptom, such as nopal cactus fruit.

Inflammation can be separated into two categories: acute inflammation and chronic inflammation

Acute inflammation is the body’s attempt to remove stimuli that are harming the body. While an infection is caused by a pathogen, inflammation is actually caused by the body itself. Inflammation is part of the healing process, and it helps aid in the progressive destruction of old, dead tissue. Acute inflammation is vitally important to the survival of organisms, including humans.

However, chronic inflammation is very serious, very uncomfortable, and usually indicative of something deeper that is occurring in the body. Chronic inflammation occurs when acute inflammation is prolonged. The type of cells present in the tissues during chronic inflammation is even different, and there is a recursive pattern of healing and destruction of tissue.

“So How Can I Prevent and Reduce Inflammation?”

First, it’s worth reiterating again: if you are experiencing chronic inflammation symptoms, see a doctor immediately. This cannot be stressed enough. Chronic inflammation can be the symptom of a very serious disease, and should not be discounted.

OK. So you’ve seen your doctor? Great.

Now that you’ve seen your doctor for chronic inflammation, you may have a better idea of what’s causing it. However, you may be asking yourself, “How can I reduce this inflammation?” It’s uncomfortable, and even painful, at times, and advice to the end of reducing this inflammation is probably incredibly welcome to sufferers of chronic inflation.

Studies have recently shown that juice from the nopal cactus may help cells defend themselves more — and therefore reduce the need for inflammation in order to rebuild damaged cells. The nopal fruit does so by providing the body with antioxidants: namely, bio-flavanoids.

“What are bio-flavanoids?”

Nopal cacti are unique among plants in that they containing bio-flavanoids: anti-inflammatory antioxidants. Anti-oxidants prevent the breakdown of cells by free-radicals. Bio-flavanoids have been demonstrated in studies to help reduce the symptoms of chronic inflammation.

Since nopal cactus juice contains these bio-flavanoids, they may help to reduce the symptoms of chronic inflammation. They’re one of the only plants with this type of antioxidant, which is incredibly potent. According to researchers at the University of Palermo in the August, 2004 edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:
“Our findings of improved body redox status suggest major benefits from diets including cactus pear, which may reduce the risk of age-related and degenerative diseases in which the level of body oxidative stress may play a pathogenic role.”
Those who are suffering from chronic inflammation should give the juice from nopal cactus a shot. It could drastically reduce symptoms.
